Despite the constant verbal attacks from President Rodrigo ‘Rody’ Duterte, the bishops of the
Catholic Church in the Philippines promised to support his plans for the country, especially those that focus on fighting crime and transforming the nation.
“Let us give him a chance to fulfill his promises but within the parameters of the law,” Bishop Broderick Pabillo of Manila said on Friday.
“Of course we are going to support him within the confines of the law. He has the support of our prayers,” Oliveros said.
The Malolos bishop also praised Duterte’s inaugural speech, saying that it was long enough to cover the important topics and short enough not to be boring.
The Catholic Church has decided to remain mostly quiet and not fire back at Duterte, who has repeatedly cursed its bishops and even called the institution the ‘most hypocritical‘ in the world.
